School Board The School Board Meets once a month at 7 p.m. in the DePaul Center. The meetings are open to members of the Parish and School, but attendees must submit the request to attend in writing to the Executive Committee to be place on the agenda. The St. Vincent de Paul School Board is a regulatory body operating education facilities in the St. Vincent de Paul Parish subject to the such policies that might proceed from the Mobile Archdiocesan Board of Catholic Education and regulations that might proceed from the Department of Education, Archdiocese of Mobile. This board consist of nine voting members, voted on by the Parish and School for a three-year term. Three new members are selected every year to keep the membership growing and well versed in the school operations. The Pastor and the PTO president serve as non-elected voting members, while the Principal serves as a non-voting The School Board meets the second Monday of every month in the de Paul Center at 7 p.m. All meetings are open to the members of the Parish and to parents of children receiving their education under the auspices of the Parish as prescribed in the by-laws. (Constitution Article V. Section C.) The by-laws prescribe that non-School Board members, must request in writing to attend or speak at any School Board meeting, and this request must be approved and placed upon the agenda. The School Board Executive Committee, consisting of the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Pastor and Principal, prepare the Agenda at their monthly meeting two weeks after each regularly scheduled Board meeting. member. The functions of the School Board are as follows: (Constitution Article II. Section B.) Implement policies of the Archbishop of the Diocese and the Mobile Archdiocesan Board of Catholic Education. The principle course of the Board will be to encourage, assist, and enrich each educational phase of the school in its commitment to the broad task of Catholic education. Act as a liaison body with the local and state school officials through the Superintendent of Schools, Archdiocese of Mobile. Be responsible for all policies under which Administrative Officers shall operate St. Vincent de Paul School Be responsible for the evaluation of the effectiveness of all school programs. Determine policies relating to the planning, operating and maintaining the facilities and equipment of St. Vincent de Paul. Be responsible for the annual budget. Be responsible for determining tuition rates, salary scales, insurance and other matters relating to St. Vincent de Paul School. Establish committees on a standing or ad hoc basis according to need. Implement a systematic and long range planning process. Board of Education Procedure for Handling Parental Complaints Specific Complaint must be put in writing i.e. Discipline procedure has not been followed. Complaint is first considered by the Executive Committee. Complaint cannot be towards a person (teacher, principal, another parent or student). Board must decide whether the issue is sufficient cause for the parent to appear. (Issue must be a policy or principle that has been misapplied or not applied). Executive Committee looks at whether the issue has been handled at the Administrative level. Disagreement with a teacher or principal is not grounds to come before the board or disagreement about how they are handling a situation.
