Sacramental Preparation Baptism There is a preparation program for parents and sponsors prior to the celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism. Please call Fr. Irwin, 661-3908 to set up a meeting. It is a good idea to schedule the preparation program prior to the baby’s birth. Marriage Register as soon as possible. Please contact the priest at least six(6) months prior to the wedding. The date is tentative until the preparation program is complete. Advent & Lent are Penitential Seasons; couples are encouraged to plan their wedding outside these seasons.
Care of the sick and those confined to their Homes Please call the Parish Office for a Priest as soon as you or someone in your family is hospitalized or suffers a serious illness or injury. Regular visits are made to the hospitals and the priest visits those confined to home every First Friday
Flowers on the altar this weekend have been placed in memory of Ben Taylor who passed away January 31st, 2006. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, rest in peace!
Senior Altar Servers Wanted: Any men of the parish who would like to serve at the altar, please contact the parish office and let us know. It would be a great blessing to have some men who would be willing to serve as MC during Mass when needed. A training session will be scheduled.
Calling All Those Who would like to be an Altar Server: Children should be in the 3rd grade and above. All children should be members of St. Vincent de Paul Church. Parents should know that they are making a commitment to having their child at the weekend Mass to which he/she is scheduled. Training will take place Sunday, January 31st from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Sign-up sheet is in the vestibule of the Church.
First Communion Parents: We will have a First Communion meeting on Thursday, January 28th at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Please plan to be present!
New Year’s Resolution Regarding Picking up Bulletins: It is great that some of you are anxious to pick up your bulletin – so much so, that you pick it up before Mass; however, it is impossible for all 400 people per weekend to come into the sacristy to do this. Furthermore, it creates more confusion when those in the sacristy are preparing for Mass not to mention that a few of them are left in the pews each week (obviously, by those who pick them up early). Therefore, since we are all equal as children of God, everyone is asked to please wait until after Mass to take a bulletin; exceptions can be made for those with a real need. Thank you for understanding – Fr. Irwin.
Spring Festival Confetti Eggs Baking Season is over, however, we still need you to save the eggshells-- How to: Gently tap the end of the egg on your kitchen counter. Once cracked, peel back the shell to make an opening about the size of a quarter. Once you have poured the yolk and egg white into your favorite recipe, thoroughly rinse out the eggshell. Let it dry upside down in the egg carton. Leave your carton of shells in the Cry Room. Festival Meeting Monday, Feb. 1st 6:00 p.m.
Catholic Charities 2010: “In All Things…Charity” What is it? Catholic Charities is the Annual Archdiocesan appeal that funds more than 30 agencies and programs for the poor and needy, children, teens and adults. What are some of these agencies? One is Catholic Social Services here in Mobile; they give direct aid to poor people. Other agencies are Youth Ministry & Religious Education, Prison Ministry, and Hispanic Ministry. How much should I give? The basic pledge is $36 per month. Many people can and do give more; others give less: all according to their ability. The money goes toward helping those who are materially less fortunate and spreading the good news of God’s love. Bob and Margaret Sweeney have graciously volunteered, once again, to serve as our appeal chairpersons; Bob or Margaret may be calling you to give you an opportunity to donate. Thank you Bob and Margaret!
Young Adult Group Super Bowl Party! Jeremy and Michelle Parrillo will be hosting a Super Bowl Party, Sunday, Feb. 7th , for the Young Adult group we are trying to start for people between the ages of 18-40 . The location is pending. Once we know how many people will attend we will announce a definite location. Please look for the sign up sheet in the back of the church. The last day to sign up to join us will be Sunday, January 31st. If you have questions please call Michelle at 656-5249. Week of Prayer for Christian Unity: is January 18 – 25th; this is fitting because Jan 25th is the feast of the Conversion of St. Paul, a great saint, who is beloved by both Catholics and Protestants. St. Paul, the author of a large portion of the New Testament, reminds us of just how much we share in common with our separated brothers and sisters. Let us continue to pray for greater unity among Christians: it is Christ’s will (Jn 17:21).

School Open House TODAY , 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. We invite everyone to attend and learn about our School. Congratulations to our Spelling Bee winners; Neven Buchanan (winner) and Sam Bolen (runner-up). Support the People Who Support Our School and Parish Each month during the school year both Godfather's Pizza and Beef O'Brady's have St. Vincent's School days. Godfather's is the first Thursday of the month and Beef O'Brady's is the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Our school receives 15% of all receipts turned in by our school from these days and students turning in receipts get an out-of-uniform-day. Both take-out orders and dine-in orders count. Dining in also provides a nice setting for parents, teachers and school board members to visit. When you patronize these establishments, tell Sandra at Godfather's and Todd at Beef O'Brady's that you are from St. Vincent de Paul and thank them for their help. Godfather's Pizza is in Tillman's Corner on Hwy 90 and Beef O'Brady's in the Lowe's shopping center. The next Godfather’s Pizza is Thursday, February 7th , Tithe Reminder Please remember that the contributor’s rate of tuition is granted to those families who are registered members of St. Vincent de Paul Parish and who contribute the minimum required contribution of $800 each year.
